Scoliosis Q & A

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a condition that causes the spine to have an abnormal curvature. People who suffer from scoliosis may deal with a variety of spinal problems, including pain, posture problems, and movement problems. There are 3 kinds of scoliosis. Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common kind of scoliosis. It's typically seen in young children and it appears to be inherited. Congenital scoliosis is the type of scoliosis that is diagnosed at or around the time of birth. This kind of scoliosis appears to occur because of problems with spinal development in utero. Finally, functional scoliosis happens because of other conditions. A person with functional scoliosis has a structurally normal spine, unlike people with the other 2 types of scoliosis. The functional scoliosis sufferer develops a spinal curvature because of other issues.

How does the chiropractor evaluate scoliosis patients?

New patients will first complete new patient paperwork, which can also be done ahead of time via download on the Aligned Health Center website. During the evaluation, the patient will have a chance to discuss the history of their scoliosis, including how it has negatively impacted their life and what type of treatment was used in the past. The chiropractor will then perform a hands-on examination that includes palpation of the entire spine. Scoliosis patients will typically have an orthopedic exam, a neurological exam, a postural exam, and a complete spine analysis via x-ray.

How is scoliosis treated?

Scoliosis is treated on an individual basis at Aligned Health Center. To truly achieve relief, a true remodel of the spine is needed. The treatment may encompass multiple techniques including Mirror Image postural adjustments, Mirror Image prescribed exercises and Mirror Image postural traction. All Scoliosis treatments are completely natural and non-invasive. Patients can expect not just symptom relief but improved total wellness.
